Nina Basu is a seasoned litigator and community leader who brings people together, solves problems and gets things done. She brings strong legal skills, finance skills, organizational development skills and passion to every legal matter and project.
Ms. Basu earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law, where she was a Judge Morton P. Fischer Leadership Scholar. She graduated from Dartmouth College and from Baltimore’s McDonogh School.
Ms. Basu is a litigator with broad experience handling matters in Maryland state and federal courts, as well as in courts across the country. Ms. Basu has litigated complex commercial, employment and financial services and has first chaired jury and bench trials. She advises on regulatory compliance across industries and has managed complex contract requirements litigation for technology companies. Ms. Basu’s practice at a large law firm focused on consumer and financial services litigation, including Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, consumer protection and mortgage-related litigation matters. She handled commercial litigation and workout matters on behalf of lenders, as well as employment litigation, real property litigation, arbitration and administrative law matters.
Before attending law school, Ms. Basu was a financial analyst where she developed a model to predict revenue from supply chain data on a continuous basis. She provided data analysis support for international business units and analytic support to functional managers, to identify and execute cost-saving measures. Ms. Basu serves as the President and CEO of the Inner Arbor Trust, Inc. Previously, Ms. Basu served as the Trust’s General Counsel and as a tireless volunteer since the organization’s founding.
Ms. Basu’s community leadership work also includes serving on the Howard County Human Rights Commission, the Diversity & Inclusion Committee of the Maryland State Bar Association, Chair of the Long Reach Community Association, member of the Visit Howard County Board of Directors, member of the Maryland Comptroller’s Business Workgroup, and as a volunteer attorney for the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers’ Service and Free State Legal and Catholic Charities of Baltimore. She is a former Board of Directors and Trustee for the ACLU of Maryland, Alumni Board Member for the University of Maryland School of Law, Alumni Executive Council member for the McDonogh School, Chair of the Howard County Commission for Women, and Chair of the Zoning and Inspections Transition Team for the Howard County Executive.
In her spare time, Ms. Basu enjoys skiing.
